I feel that media need to be responsible especially in social networking, by protecting the users better. Peoples Facebook pictures show up on Google now and the same for other social websites. However, the users of these sites need to be responsible with the things they post. These sites allow people to take your posts and use them against you. People shouldn't have to make their settings privet so even their friends can't find them. It would be one thing if someones profile wasn't protected at all, but no, I protect my pictures and posts and somehow when I looked up pictures of a guy in a band a picture of me and another guy in a band came up. Why does Facebook even when peoples pictures are protected, put your pictures on Google? I don't get it. It's not only Facebook that does it. Twitter and Tumblr do it as well. This isn't completely the websites fault. If someones pictures or profile is not protected they have every right to put their pictures on Google or another website. Most social networking sites even say in their terms and conditions that if your account is not protected they can use your pictures. My only question is why are they still using your pictures if you've done everything you can to protect that?
Games and apps on Facebook bother me because when they ask to use your information and you click no they still use it. Not only is this extremely annoying, but also makes it easier for random people to find you. You will show up in the 'People who use this' section when people use the application. However, if people don't want others to be able to find them this way there is a simple explanation; do not use the app.
I feel if twitter creates a privacy setting where you can block only your pictures in stead of your whole profile or nothing at all, this would solve part of that problem. If Facebook didn't use peoples information for applications at all if would be safer for kids to use. I find tumblr isn't really a place to post pictures of yourself anymore. So if the users on tumblr just didn't use their name, it would be a lot more safe for them and no one would find their profile.
